A recent project to add to our developing folio of education projects, Bryant Alsop were appointed to design new Art Facilities at New Gisborne Primary School. Having lost their old art room through a fire in 2011, concerted efforts by the School Council and the school community saw the school receive State Government funds for the development of a new, inspiring Art Centre. We were thrilled to be appointed and to work with the New Gisborne PS community to develop a facility which opens up new possibilities for engaging their students in exploring fine arts from wood work to screen printing, multi-media and clay-mation to painting.
Completed on time and under budget, the facility provides a light-filled, flexible teaching space which forms part of a new arts precinct incorporating Fine Arts, Music and Performing Arts. Large, glass sliding doors open up to a protected outdoor teaching space complete with sinks and seating to enable use across a range of curriculum activities including physical sciences.
