The brief was to convert a tired Victorian house, into a dynamic, flexible house for a young family. It was important to both the owners and Bryant Alsop, that the integrity and “stories” held within the old house be retained. The new addition to the rear of the property was designed to look contemporary and stand in contrast to the original Victorian building. Given the tight, inner city site, it was critical that spaces were planned efficiently without compromising space. Open plan living was moulded to create a series of “connected” spaces allowing family members to live closely while maintaining some separation and intimate space.
